An Atheist Whose Son Is Marrying A Hindu Woman
OK, first up, I love this woman, and am very much looking forward to being the mother of the groom at their wedding which is happening really, really, soon!
But I know very little about the Hindu religion, or the strength of this young woman’s attachment to her stated religion. I do know the city she was born in, and has spent most of her life in up until around four years ago is over 60% Hindu.
So I at least have found out that much. My son was raised in a Secular manner, with very little exposure to the Christian religion, which it the most widespread religion in Australia, where we all live. And the wedding is going to be a Secular one, with no religious overtones at all.
My fellow ‘in-laws-to-be’ Mumbai, and are going to be coming to Australia for this wedding of their much loved and only child, as my son is also a much loved and only child. They have both told me they wanted to have children in three or so years time, which made me happy. I many not believe in a God, but I definitely believe in the importance of Grandparents, and I so want to be a Grandmother!
