Australia Against India, Bring It On

Day 2 of the Second Test Cricket match begins later on today with both teams in positions where they may be able to win.

As an Australian, I used to want the Australian team to win, but since my son met and fell in love with, and then married a lovely Indian lady, I;m happy to have changed my allegiance and now I follow India, and want them to win!

My daughter-in-law, Ragi knows a lot more than I do about cricket, having grown up in cricket mad Mumbai in India, and being a player herself in Adelaide where she and my son live. My husband and I have watched her play this game, and she’s good!

There’s no way I could bat, bowl, or field at all well — I’ve been a watcher of cricket all of my life, but never been a player. I did actually umpire a cricket game once, many, many years ago, which was ridiculous, I didn’t know the rules then, and still don’t know all of the rules.

The cricket game I unpired was a social game for I think people from the government department I was working for at the time. There had been alcohol consumed, it was a quite warm day, and the batter looked as red as a ripe chilli pepper, and I was worried he may have a heart attack, so when his opposition called for the umpire (me) to declare the batsman out, I put my finger up and gave him out.

He wasn’t happy with my decision, but I was the umpire, and what I said was the final decision, so he had to leave the field, and let the next batsman take his place.
