On Considering ‘Mattertude’ Rather Than, Or As Well As, Gratitude

Mattertude is a word I made up, recently, although a brief Google search reveals I’m not the first, or only, person to have done so. That’s fine it doesn’t matter, either way …

This is Lenny, our Greyhound, he matters to me for sure!

I’m sure most of us have heard about the idea of writing down three things we are grateful for every morning, or perhaps night, or at least every day, or often. I propose another thing to regularly think on, and that is the ‘things that matter to us’.

I’m came up with this word ‘Mattertude’, because words and playing with them is certainly something that matters to me. As a writer, knowing as much as I can about words, and being confident, even playful, in my using of them, can assist in furthering my practice, keeping me keen on writing, and so I’ll be producing more of it, and making it even better!

So, thinking further about this, if I were to write down a list of things that matter to me, particularly as they relate to the current moment, I may write:

Lenny, our dog who needs to have a walk soon, because he is going to be left alone for several hours later today, and it will be better for him to have exercise both of body, and mind — going on a walk is both of those things for a dog, as they connect with Nature, and look around at the things happening outside of their home.
