Oops, I Misused a Word, When Blaming Someone For Misusing the Word

Mea Culpa, my bad, oh, so sorry, and all the rest. I thought I was being the correct one, but no, I had it wrong …

I won’t go into too much detail, but I was so sure I was correct about the proper use of a word, that I felt pointing out the proper use was doing a favour to the person I was pointing it out to.

But, having actually looking this particular word, or phrase, more correctly, I realised the other writer was perfectly correct in use of the word in the phrase … Yes, Ms Smartypants Writer (Me) got a word wrong, me!

I think I’m good at knowing meanings of words, and how to use them correctly. I’ve been a keen reader and writer, and have eight books published with more on the way.

I also edit a monthly newsletter for the town nearest to my home, a successful newsletter that many readers congratulate me about, often. I’m proud of it, and of myself for producing it.

But of course I am only human, and I make mistakes, the same as everyone else does. But the way to not be brought down too far, is to own up to your mistakes, and do your best to make amends.

So yes, I am a bit embarrassed about this, and hope I never ever get so arrogant that I forget this mistake and the various other ones I’ve made in my life. And I hope I will always remember to step up, and confess to my mistakes, always!

I’ll certainly work on being more thoughtful when commenting on the work of others here on Medium, and make sure I have my facts as correct as they can possibly be!
