An Important Reason Why I Will Stop Reading An Article
I am a writer, of a few different types of writing, from online content, to novels, and many genres in between. I love words, always have, always will. I have a great respect for the power of the written word, to help us be better human beings …
So I read a reasonable amount of writing — in books, in newspapers, and in articles online. Since joining Medium.com, I’ve enjoyed reading a variety of different writers, and subject matter.
If a headline piques my interest, and there is an image there that attracts my attention as well, I will usually read the article, hoping to learn about something new to me, perhaps, or at least an interesting new angle on an already known subject.
But as a writer, and reader, one thing that will turn me away, and make me shut down an article in disgust, is a simple error that could easily have been edited to make it correct. And if this happens in the first two lines of the article, I barely spend five seconds on that article.
This is no good for me, and no good for the writer … I know there are many writers on this platform for whom English is not their first language, but even so, if you are going to write in a language, please respect your potential readers, and do your work, and check out what you write. before you publish it!
Doing this is better for us all, and for Medium.com too!
