Some Haiga Happiness! With Information About What Haiga Is
The Information first: Haiga is a Japanese style of Art, text and image combined. It is, traditionally in Japan anyway, a haiku poem, combined with an an artwork, usually a scaled back image to combine is some manner, with the poem.
For my purpose though, being Australian, and not from ‘way back’ ie, hundreds of years ago, I will use a photograph for each piece. The image will be one of my own photos, and the Haiku poem will be one written by me.
I love writing Haiku, and because as I wrote, I am not Japanese, but Australian, my Haiku will not adhere to the 5/7/5 syllable count rule that applied to the traditional Haiku written in Japanese, not in the English I write in.
But they will be short poems, in three lines, as Haiku traditionally are. Contemporary Haiku, to my thinking is a scaled back form of poem, connecting to Nature, and the seasons.
