Some Of Me Thoughts, by Nanna Carreau
This is a short piece, exploring the new charatcter I’ve made up, to use in my Stand Up Comedian act, a new venture for me, a new way to use my words, both spoken and written. I’ve always had an interest in the idea of doing Public Speaking. I’m already involved in a group that presents a monthly Poetry Reading session, at the Prince Albert Hotel in Gawler South Australia.
When I’m there, I do the 5 word challenge exercise, and I read that out, and then later I’ll read out the poem I brought with me, for that purpose. But the other day, I got an idea, and that idea grew and grew, and it feels like it’s a thing that was always meant to be, and everything else in my life was building up to this!
I’ve always liked Stand Up Comedy, after enjoying watching it on the television, and going to a few shows over the years, at the Adelaide Fringe Festival. Standing up in front of people and speaking can be terrifying for many, but it doesn’t scare me, I love it.
So anyway, I’ve decided I’m going to have a red hot go and doing this Stand Up Comedy thing myself! So I’ve been working on the idea, exploring things, and I’ve created a character, a persona, who I will ‘be’, when I do my Stand Up act. Nanna Carreau is my character, she looks a lot like me, of course, I’m not that good at make up!
And I know how she talks, and walks, I know what she thinks about lots of things, and I am so ready to ‘become’ Nanna Carreau in person, as soon as I can get to an Op Shop, and get some clothes…
