Something Odd About Greyhounds
I have a Greyhound now, a breed I’ve always known of, but never thought to own, in the past. But I’m currently fascinated by a fact, and the enormous amount of historical research touching on this issue.
The fact is this one — there are no Greyhounds that are acually grey! if you ever see a Greyhound that looks to you that it’s grey, its colour would actually be called ‘blue’.
And the Greyhounds that are blue, actually carry genes for the colour black, but in a dilute form. I’m not a genetic expert, but this paragraph means something specific to those who are such experts.
I say it’s just words, and I’m happy to have my own properly black, not diluted black Greyhound, Lenny. Lenny pbobaly doesn’t care about the science of his colour, or that of blue Greyhounds either, because Lenny is a dog …
Another curious thing about GReyhounds is that even though they look like they are made for racinbg around at speed, they actually spend almost all of their time lounging around, as my dog, and his Greyhound pals are, in the photo.
The two black ones are former racing Greyhounds, both now retired. The fawn Greyhound never raced, I’m not sure of the details, I know my son told me, but I was more interested in the fact that he used to live in a South Australian jail!
