Who And What Am I? A Writer Means Many Things!
If I’m asked who I am,and what do I do, I’ll say I’m a writer, and I write prose and poetry. If I’m having a conversation,a nd it seems appropriate I may mention information about what I write, what books I’ve written, and what I’m currently working on.
Again, if appropriate, I may mention blogging, and the writing group I lead in Gawler, where we have a meeting every week, run a workshop and poetry reading every month, and present a Festival once a year …
But say you write ‘prose and poetry’ doesn’t give any indication of the variety of different things I write, and published books I have. Prose can be fiction or non fiction, for adults, or for children. and poetry can be in collections or in chapbooks, and again for adults or children.
I have books of some of the mentioned varieties, in different genres, But the important thing is that being a writer, of any kind, that is a job that can easily continue on for the rest of a person’s life, all you have to be able to do is sit down and write!
Some people tend to stick with one kind of writing, others have a few favoured kinds of things to write, and if they’re doing well with them, why not stay writing what works best and brings in the royalties, and keeps your publisher/s happy!
My own publishing history is somewhat scattered, with no prose genre settled on yet, I’m still playing with the writing of a Cosy Murder Mystery, that may or may not ever get finished and published…
